Bronze NNAS assessment Julie McElroyDrive . Motivation . Passion Robert Bell - NNAS Course Provider and AssessorIt is an absolute pleasure to write Robert Bell’s testimonial statement in his capacity of an NNAS Course Provider and Assessor. I have known Robert Bell since January 2015 when we met through the Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scotland in my ambassadorial role for DofE Scotland. Robert has the patience to work with all types of groups and individuals. His engagements with young people would help spur them onto completing their NNAS or their DofE Award. It was immediate that Robert and I shared the same discipline, diligence and professional ethics when tackling wilderness pursuits. Robert recently gave me to opportunity to complete the Bronze level of National Navigation Award Scheme (NNAS). NNAS (National Navigation Award Scheme) is concerned personal performance, non-competitive and allows participants to gain technical competence in navigation. The undertaking of the Bronze level of National Navigation Award was complex given the nature of my disability and manual dexterity to hold the map and compass while I had my walking sticks.Prior to venturing out the Pentland Hills, Robert became my tutor and assessor for the duration of the classroom based theory. Robert implemented a one-to-one sessions with me as communication and knowledge based was essential to me. Robert worked closely with me to tailor bespoke sessions and was accommodative of my needs.Robert is a very personable, adaptable and experienced NNAS provider and assessor. He is master class of skills acquired to deal with the preparation for wilderness ventures. His credits and qualifications is a testament to how much Robert focusses on the groundwork from a wide range of prospective which is a critical success factor to ensuring your walks, climbs or expeditions can be safely accomplished. Over the course of my learning engagement with Robert, I felt naturally at ease in the presence of his company and it became a vision of partnership to enable me to complete the Bronze level of National Navigation Award Scheme (NNAS).When we moved to the practical element of the Bronze level out in the wilderness, it was rigorous. However, due to Robert’s aptitude to understand my disability, he has the skills to be able to convey the knowledge into a more simplified manner. It is key for a deaf participant to build-up rapid trust and confidence with a NNAS provider and assessor. The practical element was hand-on and it is applied across all levels of the NNAS. Robert offered his assistance where and when I requested it. Therefore, he was able to adapt around my circumstances.I am pleased to have accomplished my Bronze level under the helm of Robert as he presented many personable attributes that ensured me completing the Bronze NNAS successfully.On recommendation, Robert is a NNAS provider and assessor that any organisations or individuals should seek to engage with. He will work with you to understand your expectations of completing the NNAS at all levels. Furthermore, he will work with you to ensure you are equipped with all the navigational skills in all weather conditions while conquering the wilderness landscape.Julie McElroyFriday 7th August 2015
